Brandenburg : He absolutely loves the one on one attention!

When my vet and her assistant were on their way out to take out Brandenburg's one wolf tooth, they were betting on what he was going to be like. As you experienced, he liked to use his neck to escape. Well in they walked, Brandenburg was the only horse in the barn, standing quietly in his stall. When we approached with the needle he tried just a teeny tiny bit and then decided not to and stood there and took the needle like a big boy. They were so amazed. They couldn't believe that this was the same horse that just a few months ago you would have to twitch to give him a needle. They were pleased to see what we were doing with him and couldn't say enough good things about it.

I truly mean it though when I say thank you for having that initial clinic and opening up our eyes and mind. I now love my beautiful young horse again and can hardly wait to go down center line with him in the future. He will be a very rewarding and pleasant horse to have as my own. My only regret is that I didn't know about this 13 years ago when I was backing Berlin. I truly believe that it would have made our relationship different.

Thank you again for giving us the most amazing gift in the world, the gift of understanding our horses.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my horse the Natural Horse-Man-Ship way.  I have become more confident with Moon thanks to Jan Brooks’ instructions, patience and sense of humour.

My daughter Jill and I finished a four day clinic at Jan’s facility:  jans-tlc.  My daughter Jill has been able to learn these techniques and pass them on to her horse with ease.  I have found when doing Natural Horse-Man-Ship techniques I can communicate with my horse and have success.  I feel great and Moon is treated with dignity and respect.

Thank you for all your support Jan.  See you soon.

Charcoal and I began training with jAN in June of 2000.  jAN opened my world to how to develop a willing partnership with my horse through theories and techniques shared by John Lyons.

As jAN’s Natural Horse-Man-Ship training has evolved, she has encouraged me to keep an open mind about the philosophy and training by Pat Parelli.  My initial thoughts of Pat’s Natural Horse-Man-Ship, I must admit, were not appealing.  Although I said I would keep an open mind and come to the weekly home study program classes started in January 2003, there were many very cold Sundays I had to push myself “as I was very much a sceptic” being quite happy with my John Lyons’ knowledge base.

By March doing Natural Horse-Man-Ship techniques, I was starting to see results, not so much in me but in my horse.  By June I saw the changes in my personal growth, especially in the CONNECTING WITH HORSES clinic June 6 – 9 when I worked with other horses and saw their phenomenal changes.

The SEVEN GAMES have given both my horse and I tremendous ability to communicate in a language he truly understands so that he can be my willing partner.  Communicating with horses in their language is an incredible experience.

Aside from the physical movements and techniques that we have learned, I have seen first hand on numerous occasions horses transformed from being fearful, aloof, aggressive, and frustrated to beautiful, willing partners seeking the attention, trust, and respect they deserve.

Pat Parelli calls it “SAVVY”, and call it what you want, but a horse knows who has it and who doesn’t have it.  If you talk their language you will be amazed what these intelligent and sensitive equine friends will want to do for you.   The best part is, learning is something we all can do.

Recently I have been able to share my newly learned skills with a friend who has had no prior horse experience.  jAN keeps saying to us:  “if you want to know what you have learned, become the teacher.”   It has become a wonderfully fun experience watching my friend learn and work with Charcoal.  I am amazed at what both Charcoal and I have learned as my friend’s savvy grows, my horse rises to meet her expectations because he is recognizing her ability to communicate with him.  The fact that she is learning tells me how much I have learned and that I am successfully sharing that knowledge.

Thank you jAN for teaching me John Lyons and Natural Horsemanship work and for encouraging me to open “my mind and explore a deeper understanding of horses”!   I know there is more and I can hardly wait to “Get my good better, and my better best”………….
